THE NEED
intended to increase gas compressor station efficiency to reduce its environmental footprint. Heat recovery from gas turbine exhaust gas represented a possible place where to take action.

OUR SOLUTION
The solution consisted in a ORC-based heat recovery unit exploiting the waste heat of a Solar Centaur 40 gas turbine. The project was realized in 2011, when Turboden installed 10 HR unit. The ORC unit provides 1 MWe to the grid and has been running with 98% of availability since then. This project was Turboden’s first heat recovery application in North America.

1. The system was in operation from November 2011 to April 2018 for a total of 27,933 hours of run time.
2. In the summer months, the system likely wasn’t running due to reduced demand in our system; the compressor needed to be turned down to meet system demand and can’t produce the heat required to run the WHR system effectively at lower speeds.
3. All major servicing and maintenance intervals on the ORC were completed by Turboden, everything else was done by TransGas (TBC).
4. Operations completed minor maintenance tasks on the system (filter changes, fluid top up) under close direction from Turboden (ORC system) and Found Energy (BOP system).
